Dear Dylan & Caden,
So many thoughts race through my mind and I know I could probably write a novel trying to describe to both of you our love for you, our hopes for you and how having God at the center of your lives is the key to living.
Presently you both are little toddlers who love playing outside, climbing couches and laughing together as brothers and playmates. Right now the biggest complaint you have in life is when we take too long to bring your sippy cups or when we make you come inside the house. We love you in the cuteness, the messiness, the laughter, the crying, the sleepless nights, the early mornings and the craziness of your toddler lives. We so love to see you both enjoying life and seeing the joy that’s in your hearts.
As we look to the future Dad and I have hearts filled with excitement when we think of the young men that you will one day grow up to be. You dad is always giddy at the thought of you two being musicians. Although we will never pressure you to be anyone but yourselves we have an inkling that you boys are already into music and dad’s piano. As your biggest encouragers we will give you the opportunities to try new things and to discover what it is you enjoy doing. We know God has placed awesome things inside of each of you and only time will tell as to how each of you will develop in those giftings. One of our biggest hopes for you boys to realize your giftings, develop them and use those gifts and talents without reservation and with confidence.
Dylan & Caden we continually ask God for His wisdom and grace in raising you both so that you can see what it means to love God with all your heart and the blessings that follow those who keep God at the center. Dad and I are far from perfect as I’m sure you’ve seen by now. However, we have lived long enough to know that God is the reason we have life and the reason for our being here on this planet. No matter what happens in your lives, decisions you make, or the paths you go down know that you have a mom and dad who are praying for you believe God has His hands on your lives. We know along the way you may make decisions that Dad and I don’t whole heartedly agree with and that’s to be expected. As you make decisions in your lives make sure they are always ones that are made in the soil of prayer, counsel and confirmation from God’s word. Those three components are a sure way to make decisions rooted in wisdom and not just fleeting emotions or desires.
As you go through life know that living for God half-heartedly will never be satisfying and leaves you with a bitter taste. In all you do make sure you do it with all your heart and remember that God has put you here on this earth not just for you to enjoy but for you to make a difference in the lives of those around you. Society today says “do what feels good”, and “look out for number one.” God says in His word to “Seek FIRST His kingdom(his heart, plan) and all these (other) things will be added unto you” and “when we do something unto the least of them we do it as unto the Lord.” Always remember your actions have repercussions…they always affect someone.
Boys, I am so thankful to God that he gave me both of you to be your mother. I never knew how life-changing having kids could be until you both entered our self-centered lives. Right now you both are barely 18 months old and my biggest struggle as your mom is getting you to eat table food and leave behind your jarred baby food. Life is very simple now and I savor these moments.
Well my angels, I love you with all my heart. I pray God continues to make me a mother who reflects His love, encouragment, patience, and mercy that you deserve!
Love forever and always,
To all you moms out there sometimes it doesn’t seem like anyone notices the things you are doing for your kids or the sacrifices you make. Know that God sees them all and He knows your heart. You are building greatness in your kids just like this video below says. Hope you enjoy it! (Found this video on Katie’s blog)
