Happy New Year Everyone!
Hope you all had a great holiday season and New Years! I’ve been thinking alot about my goals for the New Year and have started to write some of them down. Do you set goals for the New Year?
I’m one of those crazy people who likes to review my goals from the previous year and then set goals for the New Year. Setting goals energizes me…it helps to see how I can improve, learn, achieve and gives me vision for my future. I learned so much about goal setting when I was on staff at a church. The Senior Pastor had each staff member set goals for their ministry as well as personal goals. We would meet with him throughout the year and he would ask us how those goals were going. The only person now who keeps me accountable is me- not always the most reliable person if you know what I mean?
When I don’t achieve certain goals it’s not about beating myself up over those areas that I didn’t grow in…to me it’s about evaluating how I can do better in the new year. Sometimes my goals have to divided in small bite size chunks. If I make a general goal like lose 20 pounds by the end of the year, I then need to break it up into “how” I’m going to achieve that. I tend to have the following areas I look at each year:
- Physical Health
- Relational (Spouse, kids, friends, family)
