Well I mentioned that I was going to post at least twice a week and it didn’t happen last week…Ok so this week I plan on posting at least twice and to start off my renewed commitment to blogging I finally gave my blog a makeover. It’s been about a year since I last had my blog designed and thought it was time for a change. It’s still not finished so if you click on some links that don’t work please bear with me as I get everything ironed out. Thanks!
Well our boys had an intense week of therapy because there were out sick for a few days the previous week. They had a total of 16 hours of therapy last week which is A LOT! There normal therapy is about 10 hours a week.
Right now they are teaching the boys somethings called PECS which stands for Picture Exchange Communciation System.
They use pictures to help the boys communicate what they want and then their teachers model the language used for asking and receiving.
PECS was created to be used primarily for children with autism but is used for children who fall outside of the autism spectrum as well and just need speech therapy.
It’s great to see the boys being able to use this form of communication and I am currently being trained as a parent to implement this same form of communication at home with our boys.
Dylan was reassessed on Friday last week and the evaluator said that Dylan has shown incredible improvement in eye contact, following directions, being able to focus longer on a game with an adult and just completing tasks in general.
Caden will be reassessed this week and I know he also has improved just from what I’ve seen while sitting in his sessions.
My husband keeps asking when are they going to start using language more….I know it hard for him because right now were just building a foundation for the boys and you can’t really predict when they’re going to start using language more fluently. I am confident though that they are going to be fine- we just keep on with the therapy and trusting God.
If there are any moms or dads out there who have questions about the therapy we’re doing with our boys please let us know by leaving a comment here. I know there are a lot families out there who have children with similar developmental delays and may need someone to talk to.
