Very thought provoking questions over at Multiples and More this week about staying at home vs. working outside the home.
First off I need to say mom’s who work outside the home are amazing women to me! Being able to fulfill the different roles and responsibilities as a parent and working outside the home is a true balancing act.
How did you come to the decision of staying at home or working outside the home? Are you glad that you made that decision?
I knew, actually both my husband and I knew, that when my boys were born that I was going to stay home with them. For me it was a matter of wanting to be home with them as they are my first children. We also didn’t want for me to work and then have the majority of my paycheck go to childcare costs. For us it’s not worth the effort having me work outside the home.
Being a stay at home mom hasn’t been easy and there have been days that I wished I was the one working and my husband was home with the boys. But as I have developed a routine & structure with the boys it has made life as a stay at home mom less overwhelming. We still have some melt down days but thankfully it’s not everyday!
What is your favorite aspect of working, or of staying at home? Your least favorite aspect?
What I enjoy most about being a stay at home mom is seeing the bond and closeness that has developed between me and my boys. Seeing their individual personalities develop has been really fun too!
Least favorite…the times I get in a rut with the boys.
If you stay at home, did you have to make adjustments to your lifestyle in order to make this work? I really think alot of the adjustments for me started mentally. Having to adjust my outlook and accept that THIS is my life right now…these little ones are my responsibilities regardless of how I feel or how the day goes. Living on one paycheck was another HUGE adjustment. We’re still adjusting! LOL! The good thing from living on less money has been the realization that we CAN live on less.
Do you plan to continue what you are doing now, or will you make a change in the future?
I really hope to be able to have an outlet for me once the boys are in school. I currently do some graphic design on the side for fun and am starting to prepare to launch an online business that utilizes my love for graphic design and being creative. But once the boys are older I’m hoping I can focus on taking some classes at a junior college and volunteer at my church more.
