Being at home all day with two toddlers is a challenge at times. How can I as a parent of toddlers fill the day with some basic learning activities and stimulating choices? I have been guilty of allowing them to watch too many DVD’s in a day. I have to admit some days it’s my lifeline to get through the day. Lately I’ve been feeling guilty about it so I’m really making a pledge to myself to fill the boys days with more learning & fun – it definetely means I need to have a plan and ensure that there is some variety for them. Through different blogging communities I’ve been able to connect to some great women who have great learning activities/ideas for toddlers. I thought I’d share a few for some moms out there who are in the same boat as me.
I found a great site called “No Time for Flashcards” . She has a fun idea for “Yogurt Finger Painting” that I’m pretty sure my boys are gonna love this . She has alot of great resources for moms to help provide activities for their young ones that “promote play, discovering and learning.”
I found a twist on fingerpainting over at Red Shoe Girl’s Blog– she uses colored art sand! Go check it out!
Now I’m not sure how my boys will do with actual flashcards but I figure it worth the try…that brings to me the next goodie I found at “Homemade By Jill”– She has the cutest flashcards that you can download for free. My plan is to print them in color and then take them to Staples and have them laminated.
Today I put out a couple of different colored baskets and had the boys attempt to sort their duplos by color. It was fun watching them NOT do what I wanted them to do. Oh well, if at first you don’t succeed…!
We’re also doing stacking and introducing them to coloring with crayons…although I heard it might be better to first introduce them to markers. We’ll see!
Does anyone have anything else to add to these ideas? I’d love to hear your experiences and maybe ones that didn’t work so well for you.
